We know how important it is for everyone to do their job in helping out the planet, even on your wedding day and that’s why we are going green! We are excited to share with you a few fabulous ways to throwing a sustainable wedding and going green the best you can even on your big day. Check them out!

Eco Friendly Venue

The Knot

Choosing a sustainable venue is one way to ensure an eco friendly wedding from the start! With all of your efforts in planning your big day while “ going green,” you want to guarantee the venue is also participating in your cause. Many venues offer onsite farming/catering which is an amazing aspect in going green. Check out Blue Hill Farm for an insight to a sustainable catering venue. Another aspect of an eco friendly venue is by a space that offers natural beauty, which saves on the costs and energy of renting décor and equipment. Lastly, picking a local venue close to your home is great way to be sustainable without even realizing. This saves on travel energy of guests attending!

Use Recycled Paper or Go Paperless

Lapis De Noiva

Using recycled paper may sound a little funny at first, but honestly it is not only saving trees but also adding a little flair to your wedding style! Recycled paper is not only beautiful, but adds a vintage and old fashion vibe as well. If you aren’t totally sold in recycled paper, keep and eye out for cloth and fabric invitations idea. This is a very unique way to send out your wedding invites while saving on paper! Additionally, you can save on paper but going paperless! Paperless save the date cards are the perfect way to get the reminder out to your guests without wasting paper on more mailers! Who doesn’t rely on their email anyway, so just drop into their inbox! Adding additional information onto your wedding website such as wedding weekend itineraries, venue directions and RSVPs can help your cause more than you think!

Repurposing Flowers

Rock My Wedding

Recycling flowers is something we are very passionate about as a wedding floral design company. We absolutely love working with our flowers, caring for them and designing them for our client’s big day. Working with flowers is truly a privilege and we love knowing that when we set up a reception room these beauties can be repurposed after the big day! There are a few special companies that will pick up your floral arrangements and give them a second life and a new home. Check out Repeat Roses and Rebloom for more information! We would never want to see you throw your flowers away, so why not let them be picked up and brought to a nursing home, hospital and to people who will cherish their second life. It is truly a win for all!

Farm to Table

Farm 2 Table Catering

Farm to table food is a big factor in a sustainable wedding as it eliminates waste, is earth friendly, healthier and even tastier! Working with local farms, bakers and vendors is the perfect way to ensure a farm to table menu is guaranteed. Farm to table catering ensures less packaging, minimal production energy and less transportation costs/energy. There are plenty of awesome catering companies that run only farm to table services and we advise checking them out! If you want fresh, fun and vibrant food, this is the only way to go.

“Plantable” Favors

Plant-able favors may be a made up term, but it is a real trend hitting the scene in a big way! We are loving this special little idea of offering your guests eco friendly favors! Why not hand out a soil and seeds kit, a beautiful succulent or flower bulbs that can be cherished long after your wedding takes place. You are giving a beautiful and thoughtful gift while contributing back to the planet at the same time.

Plastic Free

Hitch Co UK

As we all know, plastic free is the essential tag line for going green, and we say keep it coming! Firstly, banning straws at your wedding is the number one way to easily save on plastic. Secondly, think about your pass hors d’oeuvres and dessert options. Ask the caterers or venue to kindly use reusable plates, silver wear and accessories for these fun finger foods instead of wasting plastic with each bite of every guest. This is a great way to save on plastic that you may have not even thought of in the past! Another way to save on plastic waste is by offering glassware only at the bar and we truly think your guests would appreciate it as well.

Glow With Candlelight

The Fab Mood

This going green rule may only apply to some of our guests due to time of day, but we say turn off the lights and light the night with candles! As we know, reducing electric energy can save the world one light switch at a time and with a long event, it can do wonders for the planet. Not only are you saving energy but also you are creating a romantic, intimate and beautiful atmosphere by lighting up the room with your favorite candles. Set the mood and cut down the electricity, you wont regret this one!

Be Smart with Your Toss

Happy Wedd

A “just married toss” or “exit toss” is a fun tradition that we believe every couple is entitled to, so don’t miss out on this classic part of you big day! We just want to remind you that there are so many new ways to celebrate with your guests without being wasteful. Instead of throwing rice and bits of paper why not use products that will not harm the eco system and in our opinion are even prettier! From rose petals, fresh herbs and lavender, there are magnitudes of ideas that give back to the earth. Another idea is reusable ribbons and streamers! These are ideas that can be passed on to the next couple and won’t go to waste directly after celebrating your union.

We hope you have enjoyed learning about a few ways to go green! Going green in every way or even in just one way can make a difference. We appreciate it and we know the planet will to.
