A Theatrical Night of Love!

A love story is something that can never be repeated, always special and unique, and this couple is no exception! This past year we had the pleasure of working with a fantastic couple, Nick and Donovan to design their dream wedding! Meeting the couple at the very place they were destined to say “I do,” we knew we were a perfect fit for each other!

Nick and Donovan were two souls who were meant to find one another. Meeting as members of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus in 2013 was just the beginning of their love story. A trip to Costa Rica sealed their fate with a breathtaking site as Nick proposed to Donovan in 2016. It was a journey from the start, and one we were excited to have a little part in!

Donovan and Nick both agreed on a long engagement in order to plan for their perfect dream wedding, and it was well worth the wait! Both having a background and passion for the performance world, they thought what better place to get married than in a theater! From the very first visit at The Suffolk Theater, their hearts were set.

Selecting the Suffolk Theater was a no brainer as it provided so many options for creativity, the couple explained to us. Having your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in one venue can be tricky, but finding an inspired way to transition into each part of the night was all in the fun! This outstanding venue was the perfect platform to have a new and refreshing feel for each occasion of the night, and yet remain classic.

A romantic ceremony on stage watched from below was the start of the night. Sentimental vows were exchanged and there was not a dry eye in the house as the groom’s brothers performed the ballad, “Make You Feel My Love” as the rings were placed. As the ceremony came to a finish, Nick and Donovan shared a sacred kiss, now pronouncing them Husband and Husband!

Walking off stage and taking a moment to themselves was something they kept close to their hearts. “It’s true what they say: you spend months and (in our case, years!) pouring your heart and soul into planning every detail of the day, and it goes by in a flash. We made sure throughout the night to stop, take a breath, and just relish in how grateful and fortunate we are.”

The Suffolk Theater was transformed into a sophisticated atmosphere, full unique centerpieces, candlelight, lush blooms and personalized accents. As the venue already had so much charm and character, the happy couple wanted to play up the theme, and keep art deco décor alive. It was a one of a kind event for the couple, guests and the showplace team as well! The high candelabra centerpieces made a grand statement and added to the overall ambiance, but the soft white blooms and romantic décor elements helped keep this grand theater romantic, intimate and soft.

As theatricality was a theme of the night, our grooms made sure to find unique ways to tie it in. The RSVP’s were in and the classic table numbers weren’t cutting it! Donovan and Nick wanted to find a way to make the table number more fun and add a touch of jazz to the decor. Hollywood Legends it was, and it was a huge hit! We love seeing couples add their own flare to their wedding day designs. Marriage is about the celebration of love and bringing two families together, so adding in touches to personalize an event makes us feel even closer and more connected to the couple! Not to mention this was a fun and fabulous idea!

After the ceremony, our grooms changed into their dancing shoes and jackets! The party had begun! A night full of dancing, drinking, eating and love is one all of the guest were in-store for. Seeing family and friends come together to celebrate this union was one of newlywed’s favorite parts of the evening. The mother and son dance will be held in their hearts forever and truly symbolized the unifying of two families.

The band played, glasses toasted and the cake was cut as we wrapped up our time with Nick and Donovan at their magnificent Suffolk Theater Wedding. This couple was an extraordinary one to work with; the love they have for each other can be spotted across the room. Their love is pure, sweet, fun and true, and we were so honored to be part of their special. Love is love, and Nick and Donovan are a true testament to that. Congrats and we will you a lifetime of happiness!
